Thanks for including me on such a great topic about Environment. I think this could be a great continual series to run as everybody has their own something that gets the creative flow moving. Nicely done!

Thanks for this article. These tips really apply to any craft, not just design. I am a wine-maker and perfecting the art of wine-making requires an understanding of the history, the right tools, understanding trends, and of course methods. Also, it is really hard to make great wines without having carefully tasted hundreds or even thousands of wine, from excellent to mediocre.

The same applies to design. Be a connoisseur of design, take notes, compare and contrast different methods and styles; it will reflect positively in your own work.

Thanks Brad, that means a lot coming from a talented designer! Yeah, most of the time was spent on the little details of the design. We wanted to keep the layout simple and flexible for growth and new site features. Though I'm not too happy with the vertical grid alignment; I had to make sacrifices for functionality and readability. The layout originally started using perfect horizontal and vertical grids, but it was too... "stuffy".

Oh and one thing that may be surprising to many web designers, I didn't use a full CSS reset like I usually do. I just used the universal selector margin/padding reset. We embraced browser differences in this design, and we've conceded to the fact that web browsers will never render web pages the same way. If your web browser wants to render an HTML element a certain way, I say let them as long as it looks decent and the site features work.

Off-topic comment, I know! Thanks for sharing your tip Brad.
