Hey Miles. Thanks for the kind words on the design. It took me quite a while to get it just the way I wanted it. The mantra I kept repeating whilst designing the site was: “Keep it simple, Keep it minimal”. Ike and I both wanted the focus to be on the content. We didn’t want it to be cluttered with 100 site features and a million colors (because the tutorials will be plenty colorful).
But there will be more stuff to come. Hope that you all check out the Upcoming Features and changelog page to see the stuff that’s coming up! And if you have suggestions on what you’d like to see here on Design Instruct, leave a comment here or contact us.

The design is owesome. Even in IE6 it looks excellent.
Subscribed to the feed. Looking forward to all the posts.
I’m noticing just now that in the commentform you first type your comment and then fill out your personal info… I like that.

Lovely new site, I am glad to have another new source for design information. I look forward to your future posts.
Also, I too love your new design, it’s clear and conscice & I especially like the attention given to the small details, like the wonderful use of text-shadows in several areas.
Have a super day

I’m so glad you noticed the details. I was worried no one would see the subtle dropshadows and rounded corners and the highlighting of the comment form inputs when it’s focused on!
Sorry IE users, you probably can’t see anything I’ve mentioned above because they’re CSS3 properties.

Looks great … I’m subscribed and waiting for the great content coming! So, will you have freebees and giveaways here just like at Six Revisions? ;)
Jacob Gube
Jan 26 2010
Editorial Team
We plan to have design-related freebies here, yes. We’ll also be having giveaways occasionally.
Here’s a hint to everyone here reading the comments: we’ll be running a Twitter giveaway very soon, so please follow us on @designinstruct since that’s where we’ll be announcing and running the giveaways.

This is great, guys. The design is really good, kind of reminded me of Jason Santamaria for a second. Would it be possible to submit ideas for tutorials? There’s an effect in Photoshop that I’ve been dying to learn. Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

We’re going to have a quick submission box on the sidebar soon where you can submit ideas, give us feedback, and ask us design-related questions. What we hope to do is be like a traditional magazine, but with the advantage of being online so that there are more chances to interact with us than, say, a Photoshop magazine.
So to answer your question John, we’ll definitely have a suggestion box. For now though, feel free to share it here or contact us directly.

A really clean, easy-on-the-eye design. Looks like a lot of attention went into detail. If the tutorials enable me to produce work that looks like this, I can’t wait to check them out.

Yes, to me, specially on a minimalist design, the details are what counts the most. So a lot of time was taken on the details. For example, the diagonal horizontal gray borders that you see all over the site, we must’ve gone through 10 iterations to get it to look the way we wanted it to.

Btw, you’re having some gamma issues (I think with your menu). The background for each menu link image is lighter than the background for your main menu. Drop me and email if you need more info!

Tom, we’ve fixed the issue (confirmed by two other folks experiencing the same problems).
We documented it on the Upcoming Features & Changelog page.
If you’re still seeing it, I’d love to talk to you to try and troubleshoot the issue.

I wish more Tutorials than articles here IMO.
Nice design. Long live minimalistic and the Gube brothers lol.
Are there gonna be screencast tutorials?
I wish the site will include that thingy..
Jacob Gube
Jan 27 2010
Editorial Team
Yes arnold, there will be more tutorials here because we’re a tutorial web magazine for designers and digital artists. But along with tutorials, we’d like to mix it up with some articles for education and inspiration (discussions on color theory, interviews of top designers for inspiration, showcases, etc.)
Screencast tutorials? It’s in our roadmap for sure. I can’t give you a solid date on when we’ll start screencasts, but I will say that it’s a direction we’re headed.

Just came across your site today and it went strait to my daily bookmarks to check out! I hope to gain/contribute to your site in the coming months! I’ve built and sold several icon sites over the last few years and find myself creating my own icons for everything I do. I have no formal art training, all of my knowledge has come from tutorials for which I am very grateful for!

Hey,
I just found out about this site yesterday (from sixrevisions). The site looks great and I’m excited to be following it from the beginning. I really like that you made the Upcoming features and change log page for everyone to see.
One suggestion that I have is maybe adding a comment form on the upcoming features. This way we can have a public conversion to share our ideas on the features. Or maybe you can add a ranking system to the upcoming features.

Some time before, I really needed to buy a building for my organization but I did not earn enough money and couldn’t order something. Thank God my mate proposed to try to take the mortgage loans at banks. Hence, I did so and used to be satisfied with my student loan.
