Certain aspects of photography lends itself so well to design work that it might make you wonder why it isn’t on the list of must-have design skills. Actually, a lot of art and design schools do include a photography component in their programs, and I can see why: because it helps.
Masking is an artistic method by which a portion of a composition is isolated and protected in order to make changes disturbing or affecting other areas of the composition. It’s a very useful technique that artists employ in their work, sometimes even without thinking about it. Masking has even been used by painters as far back as prehistory.

After college (about 3 years ago), I bought myself a used camera from a little camera repair shop in London. I paid 40 pounds. It was this manual 35mm film camera from that magical decade, the 80’s. It worked, had a sharp lens, a neck strap, and the old man who sold it to me gave me a free roll of film (which, at the time, sounded like the deal of a lifetime). Come on! Free film!
