This is a great tool. Made real simple for beginners.

What I don’t understand, however, is why the 980gs.css concept wasn’t used in the coding. We went to the trouble of using it in PhotoShop but the HTML/CSS does not reflect it (i.e. container_12 grid_4, etc…. ). How come?

In respect of not trying to start a flame war I’ll hold back on site comparisons.

Care to explain the analytical and demographic bit though? I disagree entirely. This is a template! which means its meant to teach or be modified before publishing. It is also free, which makes it a great learning resource for those in need.

I agree the nav menu and slider could use a little more distance, but the publisher did an outstanding job and should be commended not insulted.

Also a semi monochromatic layout is perfect for drawing viewers to your content and away from the layout. Add a bit of contrasting color either with buttons or imagery and you’ve got clear calls to action.

The layout is a disaster form an analytical and demographic standpoint. It is too monochromatic, it has not focus for the eye, poor use of positive and negative space. This is the kind of crap we see shoved out by template websites every day.
