Great tutorial!
@ShaunHill.net I had the same issue as you did with the gaps happening, so I went back to steps 5 and 6 and realized that one of my highlights extended a tiny bit beyond the original white rectangle which is what was causing the gaps in my pattern when I applied it to the stroke.
I hope that helps!

Hello there, the end result looks brilliant from what I can see in the tutorial. However, I am having problems and wondered if you could please help me.

My pattern shows a break between each segment (possibly anchor?). Do you have any idea why this is and how to fix it? Example in link below.

Hmmm... make sure that you are duplicating the white box with Ctrl+C, Ctrl+F before using the pathfinder on the red stripe, and then again before the green stripe. You are going to end up having the original white box, duplicating that to cut out the red stripe, and then duplicating it again to cut out the green stripe.

Also the offset can be adjusted so the spacing looks good to you.

Hello,(Using Illustrator CS3) I'm not fully conversant with Illustrator and the pathfinder is presenting a major obstacle. I can create the red stripe on the white box but the wheels come off when I attempt to incorporate the green outer stripes. It appears that once the white and red stripe have been clipped by the pathfinder intersect button they become a compound path (or shape). To reselect the red stripe as per the tutorial seemed impossible without combining the white box so I recreated the stripe as a separate shape and pasted it in front of the compound white and red. I adjusted the offset to 0.5" which seemed too much. I proceeded as per instruction without success. I have tried reconstructing the entire exercise every which way but it always ends up with the final result that the green stripe appears on the white box and makes the red stripe disappear. Any help much appreciated.
