It seems to be a universal true among not only artists and designers, but writers, musicians... virtually any creative talent; you're personal favorite is rarely others personal favorite. The fact that the client prefers the "lesser" design says that you're talented enough to create multiple quality designs with variety.

Another, somewhat related, bit of advice I'd like to offer is that new designers may take slights to their designs personally. I learned early on to consider my design work as a product and focused on pleasing the client. I have my personal art that I can invest myself in emotionally.

Great tutorial, by the way.

Thanks!

And yep, that's one of the pitfalls that I feel is vital for any designer to be wary of, but that can often only be learnt through experience. I'm fortunate in that my design tutors actually went to the trouble of making sure we knew beforehand!

(I think I still ended up making the same mistake anyway, but I was at least a little more prepared for the consequences ;) )

I'm glad Chris actually mentioned that part. When I was a graphic designer, the client would often choose the concept that I thought was the worst out of the bunch. I wonder what that means or says about me as a designer?
